Crawler Fix and Instant Scoring
by Xxav on September 3, 2009, 12:43 pm, under WoW Crawler, World of Warcraft
A change was made last night that would cause recently started crawlers to crash upon starting. I just corrected this bug and I am also going to use this to force an update to the crawler on those who have been running older versions. You can find the new version here as well as a list of changes. Sorry for the hiccup and thank you for crawling
Also, we’re currently working on a way to enable live scoring and hope to have this completed tonight. This would allow us to provide an estimated new score for a guild whenever new data is collected so you could then see it instantly reflected on the charts. Keep an eye out for this soon!
UPDATE: Instant scoring is now live!
ToC Kill Date Inaccuracies
by Xxav on September 1, 2009, 6:21 pm, under WoW Crawler, World of Warcraft
I’ve been receiving a lot of emails about Trial of the Crusader boss kills being one day off and wanted to address this. The reason this happens is because our crawlers are getting information for these bosses based on the multi-part zone achievements. For example:
<achievement categoryId="168" desc="Defeat every boss in the Trial of the Crusader in 10-player mode." icon="achievement_reputation_argentchampion" id="3917" points="10" title="Call of the Crusade (10 player)"> <criteria date="2009-08-26+02:00" id="11684" name="Defeat the Beasts of Northrend"/> <criteria date="2009-08-25+02:00" id="11685" name="Defeat Lord Jaraxxus"/> <criteria date="2009-08-25+02:00" id="11686" name="Defeat the Faction Champions"/> <criteria date="2009-08-26+02:00" id="11687" name="Defeat the Twin Val'kyr"/> <criteria id="11688" name="Complete the Trial of the Crusader"/> </achievement>
That is what the crawler sees when it visits are player’s achievement page. The dates listed here next to <criteria data=” are the dates that are being recorded. We have no other way of checking for a date and are at the mercy of the Armory in this regard. I just wanted to emphasis that this is on Blizzard’s end and is not guildprogress.com’s fault!
One thing I would suggest is relogging after your raid over to sync with the Armory. I am not sure how effective that is but if you are concerned about having accurate data on the Armory you can give it a shot!
Rankings Update Frequency
by Xxav on August 26, 2009, 10:22 pm, under World of Warcraft
In an effort to keep the rankings as up to date as possible, we made some changes that will allow us to recalculate the rankings/scoring more frequently.
- The rankings for Ulduar/Coliseum will now be refreshed every 2 hours.
- Wrath of the Lich King rankings will be refreshed every morning at 4am est.
- The Burning Crusade will no longer be crawled or have it’s rankings updated.
We’re continuing to look at ways to make the rankings quicker to update and hope to have more improvements in the near future.
Avatars United Application Released
by Xxav on August 12, 2009, 11:23 am, under EverQuest, EverQuest 2, Site Updates, World of Warcraft
I’m proud to finally announce the release of an Avatars United application that will allow you to add guild progress information to your Avatars United profile. What is Avatars United? It is basically Facebook for gamers:
Avatars United (AU) is a community for your virtual avatars. Register your avatar, upload your profile picture, write your biography and share some of your exploits in virtual worlds through pictures, videos and blogs.
You can learn more about their site and goals through this link. It is a really cool site and I encourage everyone to check it out!
If you do find yourself signing up and creating a profile, don’t forget to install the guildprogress.com application. It is available in WoW, EQ, and EQ2 flavors. You can find them in the applications directory. Using data from guildprogress.com, you can show off your guild’s recent PvE accomplishments on your profile page and provide a more in depth look on the application page. You may also configure the application to automatically post to your activity feed when your guild defeats new bosses or completes new achievements or also when your guild moves up in rank. This is just an initial release and I hope to do a lot more with it in the near future. You can check out my avatar’s WoW guildprogress.com application by clicking here.
I hope you all enjoy it and feel free to unite with me after you sign up!
3.2 Goes Live
by Xxav on August 4, 2009, 1:33 pm, under World of Warcraft
Patch 3.2 unexpectedly went live today and added a new raid dungeon ( or four depending on how you look at it ).
You can view the patch notes here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/.
Construction of the Crusaders’ Coliseum is complete. New raid normal and Heroic modes for the Crusaders’ Coliseum can be toggled using the Dungeon Difficulty setting. This applies to 10 and 25-player versions. 10-player (normal), 25-player (normal), 10-player (Heroic) and 25-player (Heroic) all share separate raid lockout timers.
I am in the process of adding the content to the site and should have it done soon. However, until the WoW Armory patches to include the new achievements, no updates will be tracked. Once things settle down we can see how scoring should be done for the new dungeon. Any input on that will be appreciated!
