I spoke to someone from their API team and they are aware of the bug but don’t have a timeline as to when it will be fixed (hopefully soon!). Some progressions sites use different data to come up with their progression. I’m using individual character achievements and that is unfortunately affected by this bug. I’ll let you know when I know more. Thanks!

Hi All,

I’ve been away from the computer the past week. I should point out that only Cataclysm content is being recorded in the new crawler. Are you guys seeing issues where that content isn’t being updated?

The good news is that I ran it unattended all week and nothing blew up. The bad news is, as some have pointed out, is that it is not that fast.

Ideally, I will release a public version but I need to see how that all factors into the daily limits that Blizzard imposes on the API.

Thanks for all your comments on the crawler. I will be spending some time this week digging into these issues and hopefully I’ll have an update soon. Please continue to post feedback on any issues you are having.

UPDATE 1: I identified and fixed a bug where bosses that are tracked using an achievement’s criteria were not being recorded. Also, I have just forced a recrawl of all guilds crawled this past week.

Now that Blizzard’s API is officially live, I am working on developing a new crawler program to take advantage of it. This should result in more accurate data as well as quicker updates. Stay tuned!

Update: Should be ready this weekend soon!

Update 2: The program is done but I am waiting for authenticated access from Blizzard. Hopefully I’ll get it soon!

Update 3: I have a key! I’m going to be running the new crawler locally for the time being. Once I iron out the bugs I’ll release a public version. Thanks for your patience!

Update 4: I’ve been running the new crawler this past week. It’ll definitely be a big improvement on the quality of our data. I’m going to continue to run it privately but since it is much faster than the previous methods there may not even be a need to release a public version. Thanks for hanging in there during the transition!

Update 5: We’re currently exceeding our daily request limit on Battle.net. Blizzard has tripled the amount of requests we can make but this hasn’t taken effect just yet. This is why the crawler seems to stop working in the late afternoon. Request limits are reset at 7pm EST.

The crawler is currently having issues with the new Firelands progression. I’m working on a fix right now and I will let you know when that is available. Thanks.

Update: I’ve released a new version of the crawler which will correctly collect Firelands data. The problem is due to Blizzard’s original armory servers not providing consistent 4.2 data. I have since updated the crawler to use the new armory. However, due to the quality of the data available, certain kill dates will not be accurate. This will be corrected when Blizzard’s long awaited API is released. Please continue you to report any problems and thank you to those who are running the crawler.

There’s currently a high number of guilds queued for updates due to the new raid content being completed. You can help speed up the process by running a version of the crawler. I’ll keep an eye on queue times and see what I can do to help expedite them. So please be patient and new kills should be recorded soon enough. Thanks!

Update: Looks like some people in China are running bots that are automatically queueing random guilds for crawling and this is clogging up the crawler queue. I’ll do what I can to keep them out.

The WoW crawler is currently not in service due to Blizzard pulling the plug on the original armory. The new Battle.net armory that was introduced a few months back does not provide XML feeds akin to the original. Blizzard had previously kept the old armory online so this data could continue to be mined. However, it appears they have finally taken the old armory offline completely so sites such as this one no longer have access to the data. To further complicate the problem, the new armory still does not have XML feeds even though Blizzard reps have stated that it would. While it is possible to gather data without the XML feed, it is a far more tedious process. I would like to give Blizzard some time to rectify the issue before I go down that road. To read more about the XML feeds for the armory and express the need for XML feeds on the new armory, visit http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1220102079. Thanks to everyone who reported this issue.

Due to Blizzard is moving their Armory over to Battle.net, it’s broken a lot of tools that utilize the Armory. Unfortunately, our crawler is one them. They claim they will provide an XML feed *soon* that we’ll be able to switch over to. So until that happens, the crawlers will not function. If they do not have an XML feed up by this weekend then I will rewrite the crawler to parse out the HTML on the new Armory.

Apologies for not being able to have the crawler running but it’s out of my control! Stay tuned!

UPDATE: I put out a new version of the crawler that is modified to work with the old broken WoW Armory. Feel free to upgrade to this version and run it. I am still waiting to be able to hook it up to the new Battle.net Armory. Thanks!
